We offer cross-country ski lessons for all skill levels, from beginner to advanced, taught by former top athletes. Our lessons for small groups, individuals, or families are tailored for your current skill level and goals. Our tight-knit lessons ensure you will get the best quality instruction and attention every time.

Please note that equipment rentals are not included in the lesson. We do have a comprehensive list of excellent suppliers in and around Oslo.

Cross- Country Skiing - Personalised Lessons

There’s no better way to take part in the Norwegian dream than to join the country’s favorite pastime.

Whether you are looking for an intro to the sport, to work on mastering the basics or to simply have some fun with your friends, our private lesson is for you. Private lessons, while shorter in duration, are focused specifically on your challenges, not a general group program.

Lesson Length: 50-80 minutes
Skill Level: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced

In this 2.5 hour session, we ski from Øvresetertjern to Tryvannstua (or beyond), navigating all the hills, twists, and turns to understand how to put all the different techniques together in one session. We also stop for a coffee and a boller!

Inspired by the Norwegian Søndagstur, our Saturday Group Marka session will help you feel more comfortable on longer ski outings while exploring Oslo’s beautiful trail system.

XP’s Top Tip
Ask the staff to help you pick out the right package including, skis, bindings and boots. Poles are usually sold separately. The end of November and the beginning of January are usually the best times to buy gear on sale.
If you decide to rent skis, make sure to ask for ‘Felleski’ as with these you don’t need to worry about kick wax.
XP’s Top Pick
Tryvann / Skimore is great for mid-range, beginner classic cross-country ski rental. The cross-country trailhead is within walking distance from where you can pick up skis. Make a reservation in advance on their website or through us (add-on in the booking section). They also have lockers where you can store your shoes and belongings.
Bull SuperSki, located at Holmenkollen stadium, is the best place to rent mid-high end skating and classic ski equipment. Contact them in advance for booking and to arrange pick-up times.
BUA Utlånsordning is a great place to borrow equipment for many different sports. You are able to borrow gear for a two week period. This is great for those of you who are unsure if you want to invest in a sport right away.

In Norway there is a saying, “there is no bad weather, only bad clothing”. That being said, it is not always easy to know what to wear for long hours outside and with variable temperatures. Here is what we recommend to follow the 3-layer rule for outdoor winter activity;
Layer one: a wool or polypropylene layer on top and bottom - this will wick the sweat from your body and keep you warm. Wool ski socks.
Layer two: a wool sweater or fleece top and vest
Layer three: a primaloft jacket and a pair of breathable, outdoor pants. You can use hiking pants, downhill pants or cross-country type pants.
Finally: A hat, gloves/mittens and a neckwarmer are a must
Remember: NO COTTON or jeans. This is very important as when cotton or jeans get wet either from sweat or rain/snow on the outside, you will get cold and remain cold. Look for your top choice items in the off season for on-sale stock.
